Pioneer Square Shindig Photographer: A. Supalla (except for ACK_MY_EYE.jpg) February 11, 2003 |
A shindig! Well, sort of. Jess, Jason and I just went downtown to meet some dancer raver freaks at Pioneer Square in Portland. Three dealers offered to sell us stuff. Today was the first time anyone offered to me directly. If they do it again, I'm going to squeal and say, "Leave me alone!"
We went to Starbucks, and I got a grande soy-no-h20 chai, Jess got a mocha frappucino, and Jason got a mocha latte. Jessi and I also got a cherry tart apiece and I got an espresso brownie. Those things are evil -- drugs in brownie form. Then we noticed Candy Kid Jesse across the square. He and Jason danced for a while; we admired Jesse's popping. He looks like a Candy Pimp. He didn't have his cane with him though; he said the Temple Kids had it. A few random people showed up and watched, then Kitty, whom I think I met at Pride NW last year, and some of her friends.
Candy Kid Jesse had to go pick up his girlfriend, so Jess, Jason and I went to the mall to the Discovery (as in channel) store. I got Dinotopia on DVD. We then went to some toy store called Toy Bliss, where I bought two Beanie Buddies. I really shouldn't have. Augh, stop spending money, me! We headed back down to the Square to see if Candy Kid Jesse had come back.
... Then just fiddled around. We saw some tourists taking photos of a helicopter overhead, and I remembered having seen tourists taking photos of the umbrella man, so I made Jess and Jason pose. I would be a good tourist!
And Jess took a picture of me. Gah!
I feel like such a poser talking about dance styles, since I can't dance. I am the tomato, Jason is the cucumber. He was tuting, so I had to get pics of that. I'm most familiar with him doing liquid, but apparently he's doing a lot more with his feet this day, sliding, and popping, which is what Candy Kid Jesse and his girlfriend are apparently superb at. Some of the pics I have of Jason are from when we were with Jesse and some are from after the store.
Same with these pics of Jess. She didn't want me to take them.
I saw some pretty flowers -- daffodills and pansies -- at the Square. Today I saw a little stripey brown caterpillar, too, when I was picking up dog toys in the backyard. A little early, it seems. I hope all the trees and so on don't die from a cold snap. I have a thing for the macro function on the new digital camera. I need practice though.
Then I had to go to pee (chai, sigh!), so we walked to Subway, and I bought a drink so I could use their bathroom. Jason went back to the Square, and when we came back, he was talking to Snowman, who also dances but refuses to do so without music, even though I offered to hum. He said Jess looked like a Jungleist. I didn't take a picture of him so he still has his soul. Jess got three or four compliments on her Mad Hatter hat. Then we caught the MAX to come home.
I don't feel too weird snapping dozens of photos at the Square, because there are always a few photographers there, usually with tripods and the whole nine yards.
