velvet dragon

Here are some photos of my pets and other animals. This is definitely not the lot of them. Many of these animals are no longer with us.

Pets

Cats

  • Annabel Lee Yawning -- An incredibly adorable mistake; a photo taken by my dad (Steve Supalla) with the brand new digital camera, and she happened to yawn crookedly. She does have all her teeth. Heh. Dec. 27-or-so, 2002.
  • Lumpy Obround Sleeping -- My young cat Lumpy, sleeping on the table. This was actually an experimental shot with our new digital camera, but it turned out so very cute. Dec. 28, 2002.
  • Silver Fairy Princess Mary Jane -- aka Princess, aka Saggy Belly Mamma Kitty Silver Fairy Princess Mary Jane-a-belly, aka Mama. Photographed by my dad, Steve Supalla. Jan. 27th, 2001.
  • Holiday Princess -- Sleeping on the coffee table on some Christmas Lights when we're putting away the decorations. Jan. 2, 2003.
  • Clownie -- Clown has a cute goatee. He's a magnificent cat, although he takes after his father, and gets in a lot of fights. Jan. 27, 2003.
  • Gwendolyn -- She is very bossy and very moody. She's a torti Manx. One time, she hooked a claw in my lip; it bled quite profusely. So much so that it was pooling in my hands and my mom thought that I'd gotten my tongue cut off or something. Jan. 27, 2003.
  • Annabel Lee Stealing Seats -- If you leave your seat in this house, you risk losing it to a cat. In this case, a very contented looking Anna-Belly. Jan. 27, 2003.

Dogs

  • Jareth -- Black lab mix, Jareth, crappy polaroid. He was a huge dog who would warn me about upcoming panic attacks, and was working as an owner-trained service dog. He had to be put down well before his time. I'm sorry, love. Date unknown.
  • Jareth and I -- At the first barn, where we leased Smokey, when Jareth was young. Craptacular photo, and I looking grungy in barn clothes. One of the few photos of me back when I had my labret, as well, and it just looks like a huge pimple in this shot. Sept. 2000.
  • Gypsy and Isis -- When Isis was a puppy. She looked fairly grown up even as a pup, though. Gypsy is possibly a basenji cross, but we have no idea, really (she was found wandering the streets). Photographed by my dad, Steve Supalla. Jan. 27th, 2001.
  • Isis Pup -- Young Isis play-bowing. She looks an awful lot like a dingo sometimes. Photographed by my dad, Steve Supalla. Jan. 27th, 2001.
  • Isis Under the Table -- A picture of Isis, the Australian kelpie, gazing off into some distance. Terence says she wears the heart to woo people into a state of vulnerabilty, then molests them with her tongue. Jan. 2, 2003.
  • Morgan in a Basket I -- My black mini poodle, Morgan, in a basket. He's looking a bit shaggy in this pic, because it'd been a while since his last grooming appointment. Dec. 28, 2002.
  • Morgan in a Basket II -- Same as above, only Morgan is looking at me saying, "Why must I sit in this basket?" Dec. 28, 2002.
  • Isis, Gypsy and Morgan Attentive -- Hoping the cook is going to drop something nummy. Morgan just got back from the groomer. Jan. 27, 2003.
  • Isis, Gypsy and Morgan; Still Waiting -- The pickings are slim. Jan. 27, 2003.
  • Gypsy and Isis -- They look very cute together, all alert. Jan. 27, 2003.
  • Morgan All Groomed -- Just returned from bathing, brushing, clipping and scenting, he's looking very cute in front of the cats' tent. Jan. 27, 2003.
  • Morgan Demon Dog! -- A really bad blurry picture, but it made me giggle. He looks like a demon, galloping, eyes aglow. Maybe he's a mini-Black Shuck. Jan. 27, 2003.
  • Morgan Lamb Cut -- A good shot of Morgan's coat. It's a sort of modified lamb cut, with hair longer on the legs than body, shaved face, paws and base of tail, and longish on the ears. He has a long nose. Jan. 27, 2003.
  • Morgan Posing -- "What do you want?" You can see his cute shaved paws in this one. Jan. 27, 2003.
  • Morgan Longing -- Naughty! He's staring mournfully at my mom cooking. She won't give him anything, but he holds out hope. Jan. 27, 2003.
  • Morgan Begging -- Here he was asked to beg for a dog biscuit. It's a very poodle-esque pose. Not the best photo, it came out blurry, but it's still cute. Jan. 27, 2003.

Ferrets (aka Ferts, aka Carpet Sharks, aka Weasels)

  • Wiggy and Spoik -- Do you know how hard it is to take photos of ferrets?! Great Dragon; I have more respect than ever for the producers of the Ferret Calendar. Wiggy and Spoik do not sit still for more than a fraction of a second, run into the camera, try to climb on top of me, ricochet off any near object; finally I put them in their cage and took a photo of them inside. Even then I got several blurry shots before I got this pitiful pic. Wiggy is in the foreground, and that barely visible dark lump on the upper story is Spoik. Jan. 2, 2003.

Birdie. Birdie birdie birdie.

  • Angel with Chicken Boo and Rusty -- My friend Angel holding Chicken Boo, and my hands to the side holding Rusty. Chickens who are very missed. 1995 or '96, most likely.
  • Rusty and Chicken Boo -- The Rhode Island Red hens again. Rusty in the foreground. Date unknown, likely similar to the above.
  • Jabberwock -- Jabber, a Nanday conure, when she was a baby. Date unknown.
  • Dulloora -- Dullie, a normal grey cockatiel, my first bird. I'm still grieving. He was a sweetie. Date unknown.
  • Pigeons -- My two fancy pigeons (male in the foreground, female behind him). Lost to the jaws of a raccoon. Date unknown.
  • ChuChu Precariously Perched -- I opened her travel cage to take pics of her, and she perched on the wire of her door. Jan. 16, 2003.
  • ChuChu Headshot -- Just a nice, relatively clear shot of ChuChu. Jan. 16, 2003.
  • ChuChu Upside Down -- One of the many things ChuChu says is "Silly girl!" Obviously she is. Jan. 16, 2003.
  • ChuChu Scritchies -- After some scritchies and cuddling, she's giving my hand loves. She's very gentle with her beak. Some grey enthusiasts believe the grey edging on the undertail coverts indicate a grey is a female. The breeder I got her from (who has many years experience with greys) guessed she was a girl, when I got her. She has never been DNA or surgically sexed, though. Jan. 16, 2003.
  • ChuChu in Love -- She's propositioning me, doing her little courtship dance and "nrmph"ing. Hehe. Jan. 16, 2003.
  • ChuChu Investigating -- Just playing on her cage top and checking out the camera. Jan. 16, 2003.

Horses

  • Jake -- Our friend Donna's paint Quarter Horse, back when we all boarded at Footerest Farms. A sweet, gentle horse, with wonderful training. Probably taken Sept. 2000.
  • Smokey and Jasper -- Smokey the white appaloosa (Pony of America), and Jasper the bay QH stud colt, grooming each other. Two horses we leased for a couple years, before we bought our own horse. Probably taken Sept. 2000.
  • Jasper and Smokey -- Same as the above, but they switched sides. Heh. Probably taken Sept. 2000.
  • Sterling -- The Foundation QH stallion at Footerest Farms. I loved this horse. He was so gentle, and the most gorgeous grulla color. When people were around, I would hide in his stall, crouching under his feet. He had Fabio hair, which I loved to brush, and manly jowls, arched neck -- quite beautiful. Probably taken Sept. 2000.
  • Toi Alexandrite -- Our (mom's and my) Polish Arabian *Bask grandson, Xandy. This photo was taken not too long after we got him, and at the time he was ill (he developed strangles) and bearing a shaggy winter coat. It's amazing to see how much he's improved, muscle-tone and otherwise. Photograph by my dad, Steve Supalla. Jan. 29th, 2001.
  • Xandy with my Mom -- Another photo taken when we first got Xandy. He's searching for a carrot or something. Photograph by my dad, Steve Supalla. Jan. 29th, 2001.
  • Xandy Headshot -- Same place, same time, same photographer. This eye (the left) has been clouded and atrophied from moon blindness, but it used to be large and dark. Shaggy boy. Photograph by my dad, Steve Supalla. Jan. 29th, 2001.
  • Xandy a Year Later -- Xandy in his "clothes", being led by my mom. Same place, but early 2002 (about a year later) and I'm taking the photo with a cheapo one use camera. Healthy, more muscled up, his mane grown out, and no longer shaggy. Early 2002.
  • Xandy, Ridden -- A blurry photo with that crummy disposable, of me riding Xandy. I wasn't prepared to do so, so I'm wearing platform shoes with three-inch heels. Oops. And no helmet, very naughty (I always wear a helmet, this was a freak incident). Early 2002.
  • Xandy, Ridden, Black and White -- Another blurry shot of me riding Xandy in my clunky shoes. He's definitely not reaching down through his topline here, but he's cute anyway. Early 2002.
  • Xandy, Ridden, Take III -- Yet another. His carraige could be better, but hey, they were just cute shots. Amazing to compare this horse to Xandy when we got him. Early 2002.
  • Bumblebee 'Before' I -- My new horse, Bumblebee. She's a chestnut QH/Thoroughbred, supposedly, and around 16 years old. She's been a pasture ornament for years. Look at her; no muscle. Because she lacks any abdominal muscles, her stomach is hanging (a 'haybelly'), and her spine looks boney and swayback. She has no butt muscles (crazy, for a QH), skinny, weak shoulders, and a scrawny, soft chest. Her coat is ruffled and shaggy. She actually looks a LOT better in these photos than she does in person. These are mostly "before" photos to compare to later. Jan. 24, 2003.
  • Bumble 'Before' II -- Another before shot for reference. Working her with long lines, over poles, and hopefully on trails, I will start building up her tummy muscles and topline. Her back should become less swayed, and her hindquarters stronger. Her head looks huge in this shot (perspective on horse photos is weird) but it's actually fairly dainty. Jan. 24, 2003.
  • Bumble 'Before' III -- One more beginning photo. Jackie, my instructor, noted that she wished we hadn't cut her mane and trimmed her up before the photos to show that too. Oh well. She has a poofball forelock. She's very sweet and extremely willing, and not dumb at all. She gets tired fast and can only carry 120 lbs at this point -- but what can you expect? Terence came up with her name, and it fits her well. I'll try to take photos at two weeks, and every month thereafter. She's a freebie horse (not-so-free after all the work and vet and chiropractor and farrier and so on) and she's only a few days into the two week trial in this picture. Jan. 24, 2003.

Reptiles

  • Solomon -- Prehensile Tailed Skink, and Aaaamory. She's not as close as she looks... being bit by a prehensile-tailed skink reputedly feels like getting slammed in a car door. 1994? Broad guess.
  • Nrgwenya -- My youngest ball python (
