Lesbian and LBGT Resources
Being a lesbian is not the whole of who I am. People in this world seem to place so much importance on sexuality, when really it's such a tiny sliver of who a person is. However, it is true that I am gay, and it is part of my life -- just not as huge a part of my life as the media and pornographers would have you believe. ;)
Lesbian is the label by which I identify, and I suppose on the Kinsey scale (0-6) I'd be about a 4.75 or 5 (and I don't know that I believe in sixes or zeros). I personally believe gender and sexuality are mutable things, not set in stone. They've found scientifically that women are more attracted to masculine men for part of their cycle and feminine men the rest; I believe this variable opinion is valid in all people, whether it's affected by mood, hormones, or something we can't pinpoint. Maybe I'll write one of my little essays on this in the future. The basic point is I know what I'm generally attracted to in a mate, and it happens to include them being female. There are a lot of genders out there besides that, though -- transgendered, intersexed, third-gendered, asexual/androgynous, and yeah, male; and more. I try to remain open-minded, because what should a body matter in love? But I really like girls... hehehe.

Unfortunately gender issues are not only confusing to the world at large, but are even often overlooked in the so-called les-bi-gay-trans community. Not only that, but a lot of people in the community don't really know much about transgenderism at all -- not to mention the average Joe or Jane. People think that a person has to be either man or woman, and often even in the transgender community, only male-to-female transgender persons are recognized. People everywhere use pronouns that are inappropriate to the individual. Knowledge leads to respect.
